5 Answer Perchlorate limits in California
The state of California, in their Perchlorate Contamination Prevention Act, regulates the use of perchlorate in concentrations of over 6 parts per billion. This ruling requires additional labeling and other considerations for items containing perchlorate materials. According to your MSDS's some of your Li-MnO2 cells contain Lithium Perchlorate salt (LiClO4). Are you therefore subject to the regulation? We are not required to label our packages of batteries that contain Perchlorate salt, as we send all of our battery shipments with a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). The MSDS exemption is stated in the California regulation in part 67384.4(b)(4).

6 Answer Old, discharged lithium batteries
Will old lithium batteries leak if left in the product instead of discarded? As a general rule, batteries, including lithium, should not be left in a product once the battery is discharged. Some lithium batteries, such as those produced by Ultralife, are hermetically sealed, and the chance of leakage is quite small. However, some lithium batteries, such as coin cells and photo batteries do have a small potential for leakage if left in a product over a long period of time and should be removed and discarded.
